Patriarch of a Texas plantation, the elder Claiborn is a southern gentleman who is still fighting his own war against the north at the expense of his neighbors and family.
Claiborn is a true southern gentleman who believes the south will rise again. To ensure this, he is leading his fellow farmers and plantation owners in a battle of economics, committing not to sell their cotton to northern mills. However, this is costing his neighbors their farms.
His cause is also costing Claiborn his family. He has disowned his son Paul because he chose to fight for the north in the Civil War. His son Ashley, a veteran of the Confederacy, remains close to him. Claiborn doesn't know he's the leader of the Regulators, a group of masked vigilante terrorists.
